Web 2.Oy Vey…

I am a bit overwhelmed. The last 6 years have really marked my entrance into the ‘World Wide Interweb.’ And It started with email. My dad introduced me to this fascinating tool and set me up with a free Hotmail account. I had no one to email, but it grabbed me nonetheless. As soon as I found out that some friends had this tool at their disposal, I began emailing my little heart out. It was a new, fun experience.

The next big thing introduced to me was blogs. Since everything Sean Higgins does is cool (seriously), I had to be cool too. He started a blog and I thought it was brilliant. Such a smart idea! The whole world being able to see what I write! Cool cool stuff. So I began my blogging career with venting. Good start.

And then, two years later, came Myspace. Oh Myspace. How I loathe thee… yet… I cannot help but respect thee… Myspace changed the World Wide Interweb. Because not only did we realize that we can let people see what we write, we realized that we could talk to people from thousands of miles away. “Wouldn’t it be great,” thought Tom, “If people had a place to keep all of their favorite stuff, make friends, and communicate with them all in one place?” “Yes! Hooray!” Responded Tom’s clan followers.

So they sucked me in. I was hooked. It really is an addictive thing (If you have tons of time on your hands). I was able to talk to people I hadn’t talked to in years, see what old crushes were doing, and find out what was cool to say in today’s generation. It did a lot for my social life. But oh, the advertisements… If you are a believer, you can’t help but HATE provocative ads. Myspace wouldn’t survive without them. So I left that world for a while. Months later, I came back, but rarely used it.

This Web 2.0 thing is crazy. Who would have thought 10 years ago we’d be doing what we’re doing now? Its just nuts. Talking to people on the other side of the country for completely free. The ’social life’ has taken on a new approach.

And I’m just so tired. So overwhelmed with the accounts, the passwords, the urls, the RSS feeds, the profiles, the applications, the links… Its just too much. It has done so much for me in the way of meeting people, but it came with a price. Hours and hours of time sitting in front of ‘the dumb box.’

So here I am. Admitting to you that I am tired. Fatigued. Weary of logging in, posting comments, joining groups, making groups, writing posts, reading blogs, etc…

I admit it. I’m tired.

But alas, The Interweb has a piece of my heart. I am still very much in love with Virb and the stuff the guys at Neubix are dishin’ out. And I do so love my blog (and all of yours’)… I’m almost ready to start jumping into the new Web 2.0 stuff like Digg and Twitter… But not quite yet. Twitter needs to figure out how to look good first.

Anyway. If you read this, you are to be commended. Thanks for czechin in, and I hope you have a terrific night.

Buddy. That’s why you go to Twitter, get the code for the “clean look” and post it as a widget on your blogger blog like I did.

Twitter is what runs my “at the moment” part of my page. I text updates and watch them appear via my phone.

    Splendid!

  2. Mr. Oy Vey, you didn’t even mention your Flickr, Gmail, and Gcal. Those count too!

  3. Stevo,

Man, I can’t get over it. If Twitter wanted to be awesome, they would get some good designers. I believe in a thing called art, just listen to the rhythm of my heart…

    SKHiglay,

You are right. I don’t know what I’d do without Google and Google Notifier. Its changed the way I chemail (chat/email). Flickr is also the man. 25 bucks a year for 2 Gigs of storage?!?! Insanity! Insanity that I love…

  4. I just wanted to chime in and say that yes, EVERYTHING that skh does is cool. You are wise, tk.

Ya know, tk, I am tired, too–tired of it all. I am torn. As you said, the blog thing is a great way to make friends, but after coming home from our road trip and having less access to my computer, and a lot less desire to use it (I just went 10 days with no blogging and found that life outside the blogospere is fun and enjoyable.) I’m just so . . . UNINSPIRED.

  6. Rehab is for quitters.

Also, SK is all around cool.

Also, 2gb of storage is lame.
